as the title says, flashed TWRP from the app, now I can't open recovery, it just stalls at the splash screen, can still boot to the ROM. do I just need to odin back to stock or is there another fix?

Try to flash the twrp image file using flashify from the play store. If that doesn't work then you'll probably have to use Odin.

Edit, here's a link to the image files https://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/jflteatt/

For reference: When flashing/updating recovery using rom toolbox or goo manager etc, make sure you're running a rom with correct build prop info for your device.

As I believe Gold Finger is an international based rom, those said apps will flash the international recovery. This can cause issues on i337 and i337m.

Either change/update the build prop to reflect proper device or flash correct (originally for that device) rom then proceed. Or alternatively, download the image manually and use adb or terminal to update.
