Default [Q] Why is my available internal storage running out despite me not using much space?

I am not using much space on my phone, and based on the internal storage bar graph, I am only using 1/3 of my available internal storage. However, the Available space is showing as being very low, and when the Internal Storage goes to a light gray display against dark gray, I see that there isn't much space for me to use. I am using SD Maid to keep useless files from accumilating, and Link2SD to run some apps from my external SD card, but I still need more storage. BTW, my phone is presently running Cyanogenmod, but I have had the same issue using other ROMs as well.

So, what is the cause, and what is the solution? Thanks!

Look in this directory on your internal SD card: /clockworkmod/backup

Sure enough, I had several backups in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/. Thanks!
