You can do this by adding a "custom shortcut".
For example, one way could be the following:
1 Install ES File Explorer
2 Long press on screen and choose to add custom shortcut
3 select ES File Explorer
4 in the dialog appeared, select any file of your flavour

Of course, you can do that with some other application, bu I found that kinda Adobe Acrobat doesn't do the stuff.
You might have a Books button in shortcuts: this is for adding google play books, but it doesn't support internal storage
