[Completed] Root Access without Flashing

Hello,

Device: Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9005)
Android version: 5.0
Stock ROM

I'd like to know if it is possible to get root access without having to flash to a new ROM (and lose all my data in the process). I know it is kind of possible with Nexus devices, but I'm not sure about the others. I read some articles that it should be possible, but they didn't go into details.

I just need root privileges for one app (to change iptables to get proxy for some apps on LTE network). I don't want any new ROM, updates, etc.; I'm quite satisfied with the way things are now.

PS; I'm not experienced with rooting/flashing.

Thanks for using XDA assist.

There weren't any guides that were straightforward to follow for rooting lollipop on your device. It is recommended that you downgrade your firmware to kitkat if you want to root your device. Then you can follow this guide:
