On CM11 M8, in some cases you can't set audio volume in a few apps^1,
and logcat shows this error:
E/audio_hw_primary( 215): out_set_volume: Could not get ctl for mixer cmd - Compress Playback 9 Volume

Using Google's audio libs, I solved this problem.

^1 Zonga, CM Gallery and Google Photos when watching a video

I've attached a zip with all audio libs from Google's Android 4.4.4 /system/lib/hw/
