Probably TWRP needs to update some binaries for 4.4.4, the "trick" is wipe, reboot to recovery and flash...Profit!

Found out why some zips take so long, while others flash in seconds. See post #7 in this thread. Apparently, the update script in the ZIP would need to be updated to a newer format to have the ZIP flash in mere seconds.

XDA needs a "2nd Post Wiki" automatically generated in each thread. Such a thread wiki has proven effective on other sites to cut down on useless thread clutter and questions which have been answered repeatedly. The idea is simple. A community-editable wiki is inserted immediately beneath the OP to address current issues relating to the topic. Most OP/devs don't have the time to continually update their OP to address ongoing issues. Let's let the community do that for them!

Is there an md5 or sha1 for the 4.4.4 download?

I would say the same, however, that one flashes MUCH more quickly, sorry to say.
