I can't speak to the credibility of techno buffalo, but I will say that it seems out of character for google to give up control of their developer devices. The nexus line was meant to be a standard for development and best practices for android. This may have something to do with google separating their google apps from the aosp apps, perhaps in addition to it. Then again, who knows?

While I don't think the nexus program will be around forever, with the success of the nexus 5, I would think they'd try to capitalize on it for a little bit longer.
