Default Custom Ringtones on Nexus 5

Hey Nexus5ers,

I am using stock unrooted 4.4.2 and tried to change the ringtone to a custom one and I couldnt.

So I installed Apollo Music Player and tried to set it up from there and IT WORKED.

Just thought to share with you guys.

Thank you Andrew Neal for the awesome player.

changing ring tones is simple. if you look on your storage, there are three folders: ring tones, notifications, and alarms.

drop your file in the proper folder, reboot, and voila! custom ringtones

For reference, I use .OGG or .MP3 and I've never had an issue with tones not working

The files that I know are working are .ogg, .wav, .mp3, .m4a, so obviously something weird is going on with your phone. I have noticed using KitKat on different devices that it doesn't always like for instance the whole "Notifications" folder being moved from my computer into the device storage and replacing the original Notifications folder that is already in storage. I've had to copy/move the files from inside the Notifications folder on my computer to the Notifications folder already in storage instead of doing a copy/paste of the whole folder. I couldn't deal with not being able to use my custom ringtones or notification sounds. Unless you have an app installed that is somehow affecting your system sounds it sounds to me like it's time for a factory reset unless you are rooted and have a backup you can use. Or... flash the system image with adb. Good luck!
