How to extract EFS backup files

EFS backup has two img files, I can mount img file under ubuntu, how can i extract it?

Is there a chance those image files are encrypted? I'm thinking that it would be a security hole if you could tamper with the info contained within and then restore the modded image file in recovery. The image partitions would likely be formatted as ext4 so any Linux system should be able to mount such a partition.

The partitions are raw emmc format. Can't think of a legal reason to mod these. Its not like samsung where these files need fixing
