This worked for Me.

That's pretty poor. This is my first nexus phone purchase from google play and can see its nowhere near the kind of service apple provide. I've requested a replacement and will be shipped shortly, I'm in sort of 2 minds wether to cancel and await Nokia lumia 1520 supposedly launching on the 25th in the uk.

One of the worst mistakes ever!!! Don't do it man!!!!! Honestly you will regret it from the very first moment it lags and lags and lags.

Try getting into boot loader screen. Press volume up down and power button until boot loader screen loads. Or hold power button until something happens.

Just wanted to you to know, u just saved my life. I was beginning to worry, thinking this a hardware-battery problem, should have return to LG to replace the battery. I tried EVERYTHING, re-flash stock image, change kernel, change rom, change cables, nothing, of course i was thinking hardware problems.
Well, of course i had to do the electric-reset "7. Press power button for 30 seconds"! Thank u!

I've had to do this twice in three weeks now. Not sure why my battery is losing its mind, but the process works when my Nexus 5 refuses to charge. I just wish I knew what the root cause is.

folks - I have a problem of the phone not charging beyond 62%. It can charge normally until 62% and then just would not go up. It does say "Charging" and on AC. The above procedure does not seem to help.. any ideas please?

Are you stock? It could be a battery going bad but without looking at it to see if it's bulged (unless you can see an extra bulge in back), it's hard to say. It could be a software issue too.

my phone suddenly wasnt charging over computer USB ports anymore. it was showing "charging", but the percetage would actually get lower. didnt have this issue this morgning, it appeared in the last 15 minutes. i just did the "hold power button for 30 seconds" trick, lets see if it works...

/edit: btw i'm using a thirdparty usb cable that i got from the dollar shop. been using it for nearly a year, ever since i have the n5. it never failed me until today. i have to check if it still charges with the original charger/cable when i'm home

I had the same problem and today i got my phone working after 48 hours of trying. Please follow the instructions in this video.

search "Nexus phone or tablet won't charge or turn on" on YouTube, user: googlehelp
sorry it won't let me post a youtube link...

I was lucky to have a $6 USB current meter, so i could tell that the phone was charging or not (ie i could see when it was fully charged). The phone will not start often when it has died 100%. The key was to charge it for at least 1 hour, unplug the cable and then replug the cable within 10 seconds. This is demonstrated in the video. I guess this somehow starts the CPU, which is the problem you are having.

Sorry for stirring up an ancient thread. Mine is on 5.0.1. Sometimes there are apps just decided to eat your electricity whether your phone is charging or not. The solution is to turn off the phone while charging. Also uninstall culprit apps.

riz157's method helped me...my battery not-charging problems happened after updating from one cm 12.1 nightly to a new one on 4/29/2015...no matter which charger or usb cable i used (same ones that worked fine before)...coincidence? perhaps...

so, thanks for the method

Thanks a lot for this advice and this really worked. :)

I have been facing this issue for last couple of weeks and this really gives me a workaround to charge my phone. Never had this charging issue before in last 1.5 years but not sure if something is dying inside my Nexus 5. :crying:

Thanks for the method but

It's worked 3 times for me but the battery has never reached 100% (45%, 80%, 60%).
So I did a facory reset, a wipe cache, I bought a new battery but nothing has changed, the phone won't charge.
It's propably an harware issue due to a water damage of my phone happened a few weeks ago
I cleaned up evetything by following this thread the phone works well except the phone won't charge (or sometimes with the charging fix posted above)
Any idea ?

    @riz157

In my experience Google Play customer services has been bloody awful. Got dicked around on a simple RMA request (the screen on my N4 went nuts spontaneously) and received no updates or anything. Every time I wrote to them I got told "We're waiting for a specialist to deal with this". It ended up going on for over a month before I said "Sod it" and just sent it to LG. Who, it has to be said, returned it as 'repaired' without even looking at it, leaving the problem still present. Had to just pay the extra out and get a door-to-door replacement from Google in the end, which I wanted to avoid.

In re the problem, have you had the Google Play Services update that @Stylus_XL mentioned? I haven't yet, I don't think. My battery is still draining too fast. I haven't touched the phone for hours, then picked it up and made one 2 minute phone call and it dropped 4%. Stylus, is yours still stable after the update or have you seen any other issues?

Well, it's been an interesting few days but after all my tinkering, resetting and experimenting, I'm still getting crap battery life out of my device. So I've decided to give it back to Google and buy myself a Galaxy S4 instead, like I promised to back in the summer! Thanks for all your input folks, I really appreciate it. =)

Hi all, I am new to the forums and was wondering should I start a new thread for my issue or can we resume it here. I can't get my phone to come on. It seems to have an issue charging. I got it two days ago. The first night, I used a standard USB AC adapter for the Nexus 5 micro usb cable, and it did not charge. I woke up and it was at 4% battery life. I then open up the included LG charge and it worked to get me some battery life before I headed to work.

During the day, I was charging my phone via the USB port at work to get me to the 100%. I get home, to charge it again over night through my charger and this time I wake up my Nexus is cool to the touch and is not turning on. I plugged it into all the different chargers and it is not turning on. Please advise.

    Any response is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I've rebooted a few times as I've been installing odds and bods and getting it how I like it.

I plugged it in with a different charger which took it up to 100% in about an hour, but after unplugging it and using it for about 45mins it's dropped like 35-40% - and that isn't media consumption, that's just settings, web, etc. I'm not sure whether its me or the phone!

Definitely the phone. But I can't figure out exactly what.
The drop to 40% could some from brightness, data, you using and playing with it. In that case, the charger is broken, and needs sending back.

When it's charging go to settings > battery and see what it says at the top next to the word charging.

If it says (AC) then it should be going up around 1% or so every minute, if it says (USB) then it will be anything from 1% every 3 or 4 minutes to every 15 minutes. If you're using the stock charger (plugged into wall socket) it should always say (AC), if it says (USB) then something is wrong.

I was wondering whether anyone else is having issues with their Nexus 5 not charging, or at the very least charging super slowly?

Mine has been plugged in for about 3 hours and only charged up about 10%. Could it be a teething issue (it's the first charge out of the box) or something worth contacting Google about?

Any input would be gratefully received.

Glad it's not just me experiencing this. I noticed yesterday that when I took my new Nexus 5 out of the box and plugged into my computer's USB port to charge it the phone's battery percentage was rising painfully slowly, and the percentage wouldn't budge at all when the screen was on.

I charged it to 100% over night using the supplied charger. Drove to work this morning with it plugged into the USB port on my car stereo, and unlike my Nexus 4 which would usually be on 100% by the time I get out of the car, the Nexus 5 was on 94%.

I've been at work for an one hour and 20 minutes now, and whilst my nexus 5 was sitting in my pocket doing seemingly nothing it has dropped from 94% to 80% battery. At this rate it will be on red before I leave work, and even sooner than that if I have to actually use it.

BetterBatteryStats doesn't work with Kit Kat yet so I'm unable to gain any further clues... Will be interested to hear what happens with your Nexus 5.
