I'm switching from a galaxy s4 running kitkat any big differences? Besides the on screen buttons?

I just switched about three weeks ago, the only differences you'll notice are the lack of physical buttons on the front and the lack of a high saturated screen.

The build quality overall seems better. In my opinion, the phone doesn't seem to overheat like my s4 did.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it also seems like messages are sent without delay.

A lot of people here came from the S4. I find the Nexus superior to the N4 in just about every way. IMO, the only thing the S4 had over the N5 was a bunch of half-baked gimmicky features that didn't even work as intended, so I don't think you'll miss it. The N5 also has superior battery life despite having a smaller battery, as the S4 frankly is just chock-full of bloatware.
