Is the gesture keyboard included with this package just like the stock one? Or is it the one that was released prior to the Nexus 4's release with the narrower trail and floating letters with a blue outline?

Firstly, BaNkS, your download link for the 4.2.1 GApps package is not working for me:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?sp1d7250cenarca

nor is the Emoji keyboard addon for Android 4.2:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?99aazddx4awey45

Is this the same as the version by blindndumb?

(Universal Flashable ZIP)

iWnn IME
Ver.2.2.6.jp-Google-T-01
OMRON SOFTWARE Co.,Ltd.

Also, which calendar is recommended, Google Calendar 4.2.1 (lime green and white - AOSP or from an OTA dump?), or Google Calendar 201210220 (blue and white - from the Play Store - updated November 14, 2012: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.calendar ).

If the latter, freezing the former version with Titanium Backup but keeping the lime green Calendar Storage 4.2.1 active should ensure that syncing with my Google Account works correctly and that I will not receive duplicate notifications, right?

Finally, does the flashable ZIP by Articudos enabling in-app searching work correctly with the 4.2 and 4.2.1 ROMs by IAmTheDarkOne and greenblue, respectively?

-Links are working fine for me.
-No it's not the same package since I downloaded the zip from 0.0 and and compared the files and downloaded the system image, deodexed them and got the newest ones and threw it in a zip to flash.
-I believe the calendar is the same one from the playstore except it is newer I can be mistaken since they both have the blue calendar icon.
-You should be able to freeze it or just uninstall it, never tried it.
-I don't know, never tried that zip byArticudos

I'm on T-Mobile UK running a Google / Samsung Nexus S "crespo" (i9020T "soju" variant) with:

Product Name: herring
HW Version: REV 11
Bootloader Version: I9020XXLC2
Baseband Version: I9020XXKI1
Carrier Info: EUR

with the 4.2.1 ROM: greenblue-crespo-20121128.zip

Having managed to download this GApps package, I flashed it and everything works fine.

However, there is no option for Photosphere. I have read that the official version is hardcoded for Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 only, however the leaked versions had this restriction removed.

BaNkS, do you intend to update your package again to include this unrestricted version? Otherwise, can you suggest a suitable flashable ZIP from another user that can enable this?

Excellent work!

This gapps package has the photosphere, but it's setup only to flash the photosphere camera only if it detects a nexus 4. However, I believe you can pull the gallerygoogle.apk out of the zip and push it to your system/app directory and delete the other gallery apk

Thank you for the swift reply.

What I was trying to ask was if you left this default set-up by design, i.e. did you deliberately not include in your package the hacked version of Photosphere (e.g. 4.2Camera_t04.zip / 4.2Camera_t04_2.zip ) that works on many different devices?

Oh no. It's the default gallery from the nexus 4 system image. I didn't even know they had a hacked version.

I installed this yesterday on the 11-30 nightly and it worked perfectly. However, after I updated the nightly today (12-01) my email has stopped working as well as the exchange service. I now have 2 email apps, 2 calendar apps, and 2 exchange services... only the calendar still works (either calendar app). Any ideas?

Suggestions for BaNkS

BaNkS:

Great work on your 4.2.1 GApps package so far. For me, it's 90% there, but with a few more tweaks you could reach 100%.

What about using alternative file hosts in addition to MediaFire? These also have the benefit of displaying the MD5 Sums of the uploaded files so that the downloader can ensure integrity:

http://www.goo.im/ (can register as a developer)
http://www.androidfilehost.com/
http://d-h.st/
http://www.mirrorcreator.com/ (spreader service)

I mentioned earlier the hacked Photosphere that you might want to consider including:

4.2Camera_t04.zip (by MariusOX) / 4.2Camera_t04_2.zip (identical MD5 Sum)
MD5 Sum: 09161e847f1950a9b17a090690c9a315
http://d-h.st/aIy

I believe flashing this ZIP replaces a GmsCore.apk and adds or changes a couple of .so files somewhere.

After flashing it over your package, I had two instances of Camera and two instances of Gallery.
I had to use Root Explorer to navigate to /system/app and delete Gallery2.apk, which left GalleryGoogle.apk remaining and also removed the duplicate instances described above.
The issue remained where I had to open and close the Gallery around five times before it showed all my previous photos under "Camera",
however since I have found this on all previous 4.2 instances of Gallery whatsoever I can only assume that it is an inherent bug - at least, on crespo.

I *think* it might also install Google+ as a system app, that then needs to be defrosted using Titanium Backup, but you may want to check this and possibly update that APK (see next paragraph):

- Google+ 3.2.2.38469528 (for my device, although "Current Version [by which it presumably means version number] varies with device" according to web Play Store.)
The app itself, independent of version number, shows it was last updated 14-Nov-2012.)

com.google.android.apps.plus-2.apk
MD5 Sum: f964a57a4cc3a7abaf7c5bdb60ca0c44

? defrosts to /system/app ?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.plus

It might be worth looking at doomed151's package, which includes this hacked Photosphere/Camera/Gallery, to see how it is implemented; as well as for further tips:

gapps-jb-20121201-JOP40D-dmd151.zip
MD5 Sum: D3155B5753AB8CAF61DDADF2ECC2B477

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1997547
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1997547&page=8 (at the bottom, my tips to him, referencing you)

I also think you could include some newer APKs than the ones included in the official OTAs, e.g.

- Google Play Store 3.10.9 (com.android.vending)

com.android.vending-3.10.9.apk 5.87 MB (6,158,861 bytes)
MD5 Sum: 108b71f4793186b8fd1768a9cd19bbd5

downloads to /data/app - copies itself to /system/app and renames as Phonesky.apk

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/11/17/download-latest-google-play-store-3-10-9/
(apologies if your package did indeed include this version - I may be getting confused with doomed151's package.)

- Google Search 2.1.12.516912 (for my device, although "Current Version [by which it presumably means version number] varies with device" according to web Play Store.)
The app itself, independent of version number, shows it was last updated 29-Oct-2012.)

com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-1.apk
MD5 Sum: 2840647010e64fe9f475c1a0a0d4ef1f

downloads to /data/app - but does not replace Velvet.apk in /system/app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox

Here are the rest of the components of the Google Play entertainment suite.
Whilst most territories do not allow purchasing of the goods, the apps themselves are still updated.
This means that those users can still take advantage of the consumption facilities comtained within.
However, I think it is important that you include these in the GApps because often they will not show in the Play Store
for users whose territories do not support purchasing, yet once the apps are installed on the phone they will
still update by regular Play Store methods.

- Google Play Music 4.4.811H.526848

com.google.android.music-1.apk
MD5 Sum: 283cb5830d7507e5cefdcdfedd3e45e7

downloads to /data/app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.music

- Google Play Movies & TV 2.1.9 (for my device, although "Current Version [by which it presumably means version number] varies with device" according to web Play Store.)
The app itself, independent of version number, shows it was last updated 03-Oct-2012.)

com.google.android.videos-1.apk
MD5 Sum: efde42e7334b758d3e7013fd54732477

downloads to /data/app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos

- Google Play Books 2.6.41 (for my device, although "Current Version [by which it presumably means version number] varies with device" according to web Play Store.)
The app itself, independent of version number, shows it was last updated 14-Nov-2012.)

com.google.android.apps.books-1.apk
MD5 Sum: 98437251979f2d22b30a12730d848e95

downloads to /data/app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.books

- Google Play Magazines 1.1.2

com.google.android.apps.magazines-1.apk
MD5 Sum: cfea563b30de8a14c35580ba13693251

downloads and then defrosts to /system/app/com.google.android.apps.magazines-1.apk

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.magazines

I am in the UK and, in an example of what I described above, this link has to be accessed directly - it does not show up with a manual search on either the web or phone versions of the Play Store.
However, once installed, it is still "frozen", and has to be manually "defrosted" using Titanium Backup. However, this process has to be repeated on every boot.
I suspect this is the default behaviour when I set my system language to "English (United Kingdom)" i.e. an unsupported territory.
Is there a way to automate the defrosting process, i.e. keeping the application persistent in the app drawer and fully accessible between boots, without adversely affecting other parts of the system?

- Sound Search for Google Play 1.1.3 (com.google.android.ears) (widget)

GoogleEars.apk
MD5 Sum: ddbb5ae5d8a9a2bfa8761a738d424b8d

defrosts to /system/app

I also have to manually defrost this on each boot. This odd thing here is that it functions perfectly in the UK, so I'm not sure why this restriction is in place.
Again, is there a way to keep it persistent?
(as an aside, I am, of course, well aware that Shazam Encore and Soundhound <Infinity> are superior alternatives!)

Keep up the good work! :)

I had to use Root Explorer to navigate to /system/app and delete Gallery2.apk, which left GalleryGoogle.apk remaining and also removed the duplicate instances described above.

The gapps package by BaNkS has a script to remove existing files before adding them so you don't end up with duplicates already. The package you flashed probably doesn't have that.

I also think you could include some newer APKs than the ones included in the official OTAs, e.g.

I think it's better to include the APKs from the official OTA to make sure everything is compatible. Any other components should be able to be updated through the Play Store.

Here are the rest of the components of the Google Play entertainment suite.

What is the point of using the other apps if they can't purchase anything? Only reason I bother using Google Play Movies is because I have Transformers on there.

The Google Play Music app has been updated several times over the past few months but it was, as described before, not searchable via either the web or phone versions of the UK Play Store until purchasing was added in this territory last month. Therefore, if I had not manually installed it using the direct link then I would have missed out on the app itself, let alone these extra features and bug fixes.

To OP: About the camera, the cm team looks like they will incorporate the power shutter feature. The gallery apk in your gapps will have to be removed soon. I'll let you know when that happens

Edit: or it probably will be better if you had a version without the gallery/camera apk and one version with the photosphere one. That way, there's options

Well people all good things come to an end eventually. It has been a good 2 yrs with GApps, but it is my time to get out and enjoy other things. It was a pleasure providing GApps to the community, but I am just too busy with other things including life to focus on this anymore. I already contacted @TKruzze (PA GApps guy) and he will make a special Nano PA GApps zips for people who used my Minimal GApps zip to ease the transition. I will still be around here and there. Again. thanks to all the users and supporters. It was fun. :). This thread will get locked soon. I will leave the links for old GApps up for a few days for people who want to download them and backup/etc. Take it easy.

Finally I was able to block the SystemUpdateService wakelock, using this app:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun
go to settings, enable the option to show system entries
find google play services and disable:
    SystemUpdateService$Receiver
    SystemUpdateService$ActiveReceiver
    SystemUpdateService$SecretCodeReceiver
done... no more wakelock and it didn't break anything, syncs all work ok
I know this app doesn't look the best, but I tried others like "Android Tuner Free", "Disable Services", "Gemini App Manager", etc, but they allowed me to only disable the main service and didn't show the other receivers that had to be disabled.

Sad to hear that for selfish reasons! Your Minimal Gapps have been my go to for a long time. Enjoy whatever you do and many thanks for the excellent work we've all enjoyed!

    Tapatalked that shiznit.

Thanks, but how is it selfish? Lol. I been doing this for almost three years now and I just don't have the time to do this anymore.
