I'm betting that a Google Services update will precede the whitelisting of Mirroring on the CCast.

They update Gserv on a tiered basis to all units and usually wait until everyone has it before they release other things that may depend on it.

So is it the Google Play Services update that will enable the mirroring functionality? Or an update to the Chromecast app? Or both?

Looks like the Play Services update is beginning to roll out:

No the eventual whitelisting will be a CCast Update...
But the GServices update will probably add whatever support is currently needed to use the Mirroring on the devices that will support it but can't currently even with Eureka's Whitelist.

Think 4.3 users maybe even 4.2 users.

Default Chromecast screen cast is WORKING (finally)

Running Nexus 7 (2013) LTE on 4.4.3 stock. Did an OTA update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 yesterday.
Just received an update of Chromecast app today.
When I run Chromecast app it says screen cast is now available.
Procedure:

1) Run Chromecast app and select device and connect.
2) Quick settings (drag down from top right corner of device) and cast screen.

Now working !

How awesome is *that* !!!

Well whaddaya know... looks like I don't need (still want, but I'm not quite out of contract), at least for now.

Thanks to r3pwn's MirrorEnabler and the beta apk (here and here) I am getting successful Android screen casting on my AT&T Galaxy S3 running stock rooted KitKat 4.4.2

Good for you. Even I tried that app. It tries to connect and then it disconnects. Looks like I need to go back to stock touch wiz
