So I bought my M8 off my friend, but I can figure out what specific variant it is (like tmobile, art, Sprint, etc). I looked all over the box and settings for it , I even ran the imei through swappa to see but still nothing. When I run the begging phone setup it asks me to choose my provider like simplemobile, net10, tmobile, and a few others. Any idea on finding out what variant it is, I don't want to assume and download a Rom that isn't for it then brick it Nd be down a phone.

If you have adb and fastboot installed and know how to warm with it I'd say reboot to bootloader and perform the two commands

fastboot getvar mid
fastboot getvar cid

With the two results you can find out if it is a free one, or if it has a carrier branding

Thanks, that's easier indeed. I'm thinking to much in terms of adb, fastboot and cmd :banghead:

What does that mean with variant specific roms? Since I'm used to usually dealing with flashing specific carriers.

To go back to stock you could go download the brightstar backup and recovery. As this one is a sense based variant you can - depending on the correct firmware - flash sense based custom roms without problems. With GPE ROMs it looks a little bit different.
