After a factory reset, your HTC Desire will read various files in /system/customize/ and walk you through the initial setup screens.
So far I have been using:
sysctl -w vm.dirty_ratio=90
sysctl -w vm.dirty_background_ratio=55
sysctl -w vm.vfs_cache_pressure=10
sysctl -w vm.swappiness=0
sysctl -w vm.panic_on_oom=1
sysctl -w net.core.wmem_max=1048576

Here you go ... kernel as flashable zip (disable sig verification before u flash).
