For non root device, Does backup and restore work for data partition completely?

If yes, this is a great sticky thread!

Can you get individual apks from the backup ab file if you didn't want to do a full restore?

Update: this works to convert the .ab file to .tar, with visible apk files: http://sourceforge.net/projects/adbe...?source=navbar

Yes, it works. It's a Java app, so you need Java installed on your system. I used jre 7.1 on Win7.

I think I'll just remove the other backup apps on my phone. There's really no need to clutter my phone with backup apps when this does the same job without anything extra installed on the phone.

Unfortunately this isn't so successful with my HP TouchPad running CM10.1.

My TP connects successfully to my PC in USB Debugging mode, and the USB drivers appear to be working, but adb doesn't detect my device.

CM10.1 supports adb over network connection, and that actually works - adb connects to the TouchPad over WiFi.

But sdcard backup doesn't work because the TouchPad still contains a .palm directory that's nested so deep that it exceeds 256 characters. Oh well, no matter - the device is rooted, so it's easy to back up the sdcard memory by other means.

As for backing up the apps to backup.ab, it almost works - except that it keeps quitting at a different random point, so I can never get a backup of all the apps.
