I have a rooted Moto G with stock rom, do I need to partition the phone storage with gparted or similar before I flash a custom rom such as carbon rom or omnirom etc, or is the partition already allocated in the freespace in the phone storage at the time of flashing? Thanks

no

only gpe roms changes partition, but that is another story, the flashing does this itself
