Default Prevent application from auto-starting and running in the background without root

Learning my life on Android without root

I know one way is to disable the application and re-enable it when you want to run it. But it's really too much work each time.

Most of the solutions I read seem to require root (such as AutoStart, Gemini App Manager, etc).

What are the options available for device without root?

Thanks

Probably only an automated task killer will work. I'm sorta guessing tho. And really... They do more harm than good. Apps keep starting, task killer keeps killing. Will chew up your battery.

You may be able to stop it using App Ops. App Ops launchers are available in the Play Store, but make sure you install one that supports Kit Kat if you've already updated, since the Jelly Bean launch method no longer works. You'd be looking to disable the "start at boot" (or something like that) permission.

That requires root which I don't have the moment. I am trying out Advance Permission Manager, which creates modified APK

In addition, there is system event that these apps use to trigger itself. What's the proper tool to block that?

Thanks

I haven't used App Ops on Kit Kat, but on Jelly Bean it did not require root.

I've run it (Permission Manager instead of App Ops but the same thing). Not all permission are exposed. Specifically, run on start is not one of those exposed.
