My phone was in the same state....stock + rooted + Xposed + custom recovery (TWRP). First thing I did was to update TWRP (even thought I knew it was going to be deleted) so I could do a nandroid backup using the latest version of TWRP, as mine was pretty old and there have been a lot of changes. Then I uninstalled Xposed (From within the app, not from within the OS, so the settings of all my Xposed modules were not lost). I updated to 4.4.4 through fastboot using the factory image, reinstalled TWRP, re-rooted and re-installed Xposed. I don't even attempt the OTA's anymore because I am always playing around with something (Hybrid radios, etc.).
