so I just finished rooting my phone after following this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REidXYQ9_c8. I restored all my settings and apps, the only problem is that I can't see my photos when I go to Gallery. For example, it shows I have 99 pics stored in my camera folder but when I try to select a pic it only shows a blank grey image. At 12:10 of the video, he mentions the photos being cached and says to copy back all the stuff u copied back to internal storage? Anyone can give a clearer explanation/instruction on how to do this??

Default How to update rooted 4.2 to 4.2.1?

Hi there, I have an unlocked and rooted JOP40C, and I haven't found a way to update to 4.2.1 (OTA system update doesn't work, doesn't even reboot the phone, then tried manually (625f5f7c6524.signed-occam-JOP40D-from-JOP40C.625f5f7c.zip), couldn't find post or thread about it, if there's one, sorry, my bad. Is there a way to make this update happen? Thx in advance..

Default 3rd Party Apps

In what folder are 3rd party apps stored prior to their being installed? Yes, I could search for one that had been downloaded but I haven't received my Nexus 4 yet. Really would like to know before I get the phone and be able to put 3rd party apps on it when I do.

You most likely have a modded system file or recovery that's why ota isn't going thru. The zip file you have, you can flash that using cwm by choosing the option install zip from sdcard

than it seems I am missing something. can you please point me to a link to read more? thank you.
i knew that once a recovery installed, the phone will always start in that. this is how it used to start in my former phones.

what phone did you use before this?

Installing a custom recovery won't boot your phone to recovery every time, unless you press power + volume down when you turn on your phone.

Just give it a try, install either CWM or TWRP and if you turn it on, it'll boot to android straight away, not custom recovery.

Motorola Droid 3 and RAZR MAXX. both with bootloader locked.
and when i installed CWM for D3, after the install..if i chose restart from menu, it started in recovery, and after i had to chose OK (boot normally or recovery) it started normally.
here it says to reboot in CWM recovery. this is not the stock recovery, right?
i just want to push the start button and the phone should start directly in ROM, just like the stock rom.

those behaviour you are seeing in your previous phones are perhaps because of the locked bootloader.

On the nexus 4, unlocking the bootloader and then flashing a custom recovery would start the phone normally. Everyone can vouch for this as I have just turned my phone on using the power button and it boot straight to android. I have TWRP installed.
