Default [Q] OBad and are we safe?

Simple question. How can us with rooted devices, and noobs wishing to get their hands dirty protect ourselves from OBad? How can we or where should we search on our devices to find such a menace and remove it? Or keep from getting it in the first place. How do we know if we're infected if it's behind the average AV? In case you don't know what I mean link below.

Obad was the nastiest piece of Android malware discovered in 2013

Devs, coders, etc, please chime in

I'm a little groggy right now, but from what I read in the article, there are a couple of things (apps) that will detect and/or remove the malware.

Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013)
Blackberry Bold 9780 OS 7
HTC G2 (Desire Z) 4.4.2
LG Nexus 4 4.4.2
Asus Nexus 7 (2013) 4.4.2

Don't forget to hit the Thanks button if I helped in any way!
