[Noob] Trouble Rooting Verizon 4.4.2 Note 2

As the title suggests.

I'm trying to root my 4.4.2 Verizon Note 2 SCH-i605 so I can get Cyanogenmod on there.

I went through one of the beginner guides I found on these boards using the root-kit, Odin, along with Samsung USB Drivers.

I've looked through these boards and it seems that because I've got 4.4.2; this is causing an error because both times when I went to start ODIN, the error stated..

Error, Can't open Serial [COM] port.

Any suggestions or links to certified guides...?

That makes my issues much easier to determine. Is it simply due to 4.4.2....? I'm guessing...

However, you still can't unlock the bootloader, which means no custom recovery, so roms can't be flashed.

Ok. So I can root for the sake of unlocking Titanium but I still can't flash Cyan on there...

Has there been any advancement in unlocking the bootloader on 4.4.2 or is it still really touch and go...?
