Default GPS Bluetooth receiver vs built-in GPS

My major issue with built in GPS is that when used for prolonged periods of time, the phone gets hot. Like, 50 degrees hot (Celsius).

So, I'm thinking of Bluetooth GPS. But, for those who've used it, is there any downside to it? How is the signal? How is the connection?
Any issues at all?

Thanks!

I use one when I travel because samsung GPS has always been unreliable to me. I think I might have bought one on ebay or somewhere for $35 and it's always superaccurate.
