Um. I don't think mark meant install a new OS on your I think he means use someone else's pc

Windows 7 is perfectly fine, no need to use a different OS. Do you have any other phone drivers/software installed on your PC? Are you using a usb 2.0 port? Are you using the original HTC cable?
