Default [ DEV ] For CM11 users, here's how you can use CM11S kernels

If you're interested in using CM11S kernels on CM11 nightlies, here how you can do it. The only catch is if the kernel doesn't include the file init.superuser.rc in the kernel ramdisk, you won't be able to use the built in root, so you will have to get root with a third party app like SuperSU.

Now for those that want to know the specifics, there's only 1 lib that controls it
Code:
liboverlay.so

It seems CM made too many changes to surfaceflinger, etc on the 7/18+ builds that it won't be possible to do this anymore without reflashing a lot of files, so I guess we'll have to wait till CM updates CM11S to 4.4.4, which hopefully will be in the next couple of weeks

Can you please give me your take on what makes the 11s builds different at the kernel level compared to the nightlies? I'm trying to understand how/if the development on the two streams are in any way sharing or overlapping. I know the software is different, but I'm asking about udner the hood, rather than just apps.

Are the nightlies better optimized or is 11s getting more specific attention?
