I had big difficulties on win8.1, starting from adb and samsung drivers.
I have so many android devices on my laptop and combination with win8.1 was bummer.

this helped for drivers
"Install the latest Samsung drivers: SAMSUNG USB Driver v1.5.33.0
Restart the computer (very important)
Go to Device Manager, find the Android device, and select Update Driver Software.
Select Browse my computer for driver software
Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Select ADB Interface from the list
Select SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface (this is a signed driver). If you get a warning, select Yes to continue.
Done!"

Than i just did not worked from first time, I had to close app, kild adb process in task manager and started all procedures fresh.
Eventually everything looks good.

And one question as I decided to use TWRP recovery I am correct to assume I need to un-check option to flash recovery with update ?

THANKS FOR THIS TOOL !
