so everyone always says back up your data before rooting but no one ever says how. whats the best way to back up data on a one plus one?

TWRP is a custom recovery. It is used to make backups (sometimes referred as nand backup) , restore backups, install (flash) roms and a lot of other stuff. Check out this guide for how to get twrp:

It depends on what you mean by back up your data. If you're looking to back up your apps and user data, then use titanium backup.

Twrp is only for backing up your rom. Yeah it can back up apps as well and u can restore them but titanium backup is the best when it comes to this. I suggest titanium back up pro so u can batch restore and backup without any worries.

He's asking how to backup before rooting though, so Titanium is out of the question.
