In many respects, it's certainly better; most importantly, in full screen support. However, there still are some advantages of the 11-series TAO over Esmertec; for example, support for M3G.
I really recommend the charts of my forthcoming MIDlet Bible; in there, I've compared these apps. (The charts are still beta and I'll further extend them when I publish the final version of the Bible; however, as a start, they are OK.)

Thanks for the info. I already installed the Esmertec Jbed and it's faster by orders of magnitude from the version of the Intent (v10.1.7.575) at least on my phone.
I read your beta table before installing. One more major advantage of the Jbed over Intent v10.1.7.575 that perhaps you would like to add is that the Jbed uses whichever is active on the phone, the time you start amy midlet that requires net access.
I use a flat *wap* proxy service to connect to the net (the Internet mobile connections are extremely expensive here), and while the Intent manager has the option to chose your connection you want (wap, work, gprs etc), that siply doesn't work (not even through the registry changes-there are not entries to change proxy address and Ports on Tao registry keys).
The result of that was that I couldn't use any Opera Mini, Gmaps, Gmail etc through the Intent manager. The only application I could use was a mod Opera Mini 1.2 which lets you define the proxy and the port.
With the Esmertec Jbed, all the above applications connect flaweslly through the wap gprs (and through wifi of course). With the older Esmertec manager, this was not possible.
