As promised, I'm sharing a lite version of WM6.1 which I use. The ability to completely sync Outlook, including Notes, is vital for me, so I used this is based on the SK61V02_8 rom I shared earlier.
Because I made some minor registry changes to the base rom, I have reposted both FULL and LITE versions of the roms to keep the version numbers aligned. The new roms are ones are: SL61V3 and SL61V3_lite.
SL61V3 is a complete rom and is identical to the earlier V2 except for the minor registry tweaks.
SL61V3_lite is the rom I use and from which I've removed apps that I have not used in a while. It saves memory, and some may find it useful if you do not need the removed apps.
I considered suggestions for adding other apps but opted to stay with a clean base. Removing apps only to replace them with others that not everyone may want seemed pointless. Also, IMHO apps that can be separately added are better left out of a rom. They can also be updated as newer releases are issued.
I like the V2 roms as they are. So the minor registry changes in both roms are only here to save a few steps when resetting. They are:
- Error Reporting is disabled by default
- Device turn off time on battery is a more practical 3 minutes
- NavpointService is removed. Doesn't have to be manually deleted anymore.
Removed from SL61V02_lite are the following:
1. Windows Media Player (can't do gapless playback)
2. Internet Explorer (didn't work on my banking site)
3. PowerPoint (never used it)
4. HP Image Viewer (redundant with "Pictures and Videos")
5. Games (ok...I may have to put these back!)
6. WelcomeCenter (I been welcomed already)
7. BTPhoneManager and some phone related registry entries
(I have a phone. I have a PDA. They don't need to talk. Thank you.)
The lite version is NOT stripped bare. For example, it still has help files for apps that are in the rom (I never know when I will need them.)
Opera over WiFi works fine. Activesync works over bluetooth. Word, Excel and my other apps work fine.
NOTES if you want to try the lite rom:
1. Because WMP is gone, you will need to add your favourite player to play audio.
2. Because IE is gone, you will need to add your favourite browser (opera, minimo, etc.) to open files that were associated to IE. You can also open them with Word - but it's ugly.
Links to both roms are below and on post #1. Feel free to try if you wish.
