Checking the sensor is only required when the screen is off and the power button is pressed. This would be more energy efficient and prevents switching the screen off when actually using the phone.

An auto start option for the service would be great, too.

Completely agree, this is what I'm looking for too, something that stops m x10 waking up in my pocket, and my leg sliding the button. When I pull my phone out, I'm either on the emergency dialer, or being asked my security question.
