Unhappy Moto Droid 1 / OG (FRK76 BUILD on 2.2.3). Root Help???
If you're responding please respond in baby language. I've been searching for ways to ROOT this phone for 2 days. For the life of me someone please help. I had an INCREDIBLE (the original) and UNREVOKED did the trick no hassles.

NOW I'm ON DROID OG. I need serious help.

I. OneClickSuperUser ROOT does NOT work on 2.2.3 BUILD FRK76.

II. If your're on a MAC / PC and have somehow figured a way to downgrade your ROM to 2.1 then you're in luck... this site will be able to ROOT YOUR PHONE ( I know this because I was on my MAC for hours last night and the only sound help I found to possibly ROOT my DROID OG on OS X was via that website but only later to learn that it was for 2.1 not for 2.2.3.

III. So I turned on a PC and I visited CYANOGEN MOD's website ( and thought I was in LUCK. I was able to install RSD LITE, the MOTO DRIVERS and the CLOCKWORK .SBF file; I followed all their steps carefully. RSD LITE supposedly installed CLOCKWORK MOD RECOVERY (the .SBF file) onto my DROID OG and indicated to me a notification, i.e., SUCCESS or COMPLETE or something along those lines, I can't remember the exact notification upon completion. However that was a fluke or I think it is since… hear me out, the two last steps (FOR THE WINDOWS VERSION) instruct the following:

10) Watch for "rebooting the device" on the device and press Up on the d-pad before the device boots to "catch the boot" and come right back into the bootloader. "Rebooting the device" appears for a very short period of time; you'll have to be quick.

11) Close RSD Lite & disconnect the Motorola Droid. The ClockworkMod Recovery should now be installed on the Motorola Droid.

... after reading bullet 11) I became frustrated. I had no clue how to escape the boot screen. I just turned off the phone via the POWER button and turned it back on and luckily everything was normal. I still had no clue how to check if CLOCKWORKMOD (CWM) was installed besides the PC's RSD LITE program telling me it was)... so I googled some more. I then thought I was onto something and booted / restarted the phone (HELD DOWN X on QWERTY KeyBoard and held down POWER ON at the same time) into RECOVERY but didn't notice any difference from before CWM's installation and nowhere did it say CLOCKWORKMOD (CWM) on the recovery menu. So, I'm still on 2.2.3 and NOTE, the only reason I tried to flash CWM (unsure if I used the word FLASH correctly here) was to hopefully be able to downgrade / revert back to 2.1. If I'd be able to do that then I'd jump on my MAC and visit this site that I indicated above, i.e., (

a) I've been searching, e.g., this forum would be helpful if I could downgrade from 2.2.3 to 2.0.1 ( What's an ADB Shell? The definition is found here ( but can someone simplify the meaning please. Perhaps use a race car analogy.

b) (Root help for 2.0 and 2.0.1 and 2.1)

V. HOW DO YOU DOWNGRADE ROM TO 2.0 or 2.0.1 or 2.1... ahhhh????

VI. What is the difference between RZ RECOVERY and CLOCKWORKMOD Recovery??? Someone please explain in baby terms. Here's an RZ Recovery forum (

Someone please provide useful links or step by step instructions on how to ROOT this DROID OG and how to downgrade to 2.0 or 2.1 ROM. Someone also please answer the questions above. I took quality time to write this. I hope it's clear.
