WARNING: hard, unrecoverable brick possible!
Sorry, I haven't been on in the last few days.
I found out the hard way that hard bricking your Skyrocket is very possible with ROM's using the leaked ICS kernel (like CM9 here).
Rules to avoid bricking your device:
- Do not format any partition on your eMMC from within an ICS kernel. -- e.g. do not run mke2fs_ext4 or similar utility from the command prompt on CM9, AOKP, etc.
- Do not flash the recovery.img generated by AOKP or CM9 or MIUI for Skyrocket. The first time you format any partition, you corrupt your eMMC. (this is how I killed my device)
- USE ONLY A GB-BASED RECOVERY!!
- DO NOT FORMAT YOUR SD CARD FROM WITHIN THE GUI (This means do not go into Settings=>Storage and select "Erase SD Card".) DO NOT DO THIS!
My first Skyrocket brick was recovered via JTAG. This particular brick is NOT JTAG recoverable. There are currently no services that can fix this brick for you.
See this article for more information (although Chainfire's utility won't flag our device as susceptible, I assure you it is):
If you are scared, good. This is a new problem and new information is coming out every day. You may want to restore back to a stock GB ROM for now.
I am going to post this on the OP as well.
