Right, 0.50 BETA seems to be more or less operational right now! However, while I spend time fixing the last stuff up for the "public" beta, I want to do a smaller private beta. I hereby invite those able and willing to join me on IRC in #wmwifirouter on irc.freenode.net (click link in signature to get there through web). Please, people who know what they are doing only.
This beta version is for MSM7K GSM and CDMA devices that sport either a VGA or WVGA screen.
This beta is far from finished which you will notice, however it is hopefully pretty functional nonetheless. There will be showstopper issues!
A list of things that still has to be done:
- Implement the roaming settings
- Auto-release RIL-busy after 2 minutes (in case of issues)
- Auto-switch back to "auto" mode if no signal can be found in 2G or 3G "only" modes
- Unattended mode sometimes fails
- Skin the band switching app
- Finish the (W)VGA skin
- Start on the QVGA skin
Note that people have mentioned various problems and issues with 0.2. While I hope a lot of those are fixed as I rewrote and redid a lot of things, I am not sure if all of them are fixed. Feel free to post the same problem again if it's still there in 0.50.
Also note that a lot of code changes have been done the last few days. While I try to test everything again and again it is very possible that in changing A I broke B horribly.
Installation instructions- Install the CAB
- Start "WMLongLife" from Start ( -> Programs ) and configure it how you want it (I would recommend current settings)
- Optional: go to Start -> Settings ( -> All settings ) -> Personal -> Buttons, and bind a button to the "Band Switcher" app.
- Soft-reset
- Complain how I broke your phone
To get the program, join me in IRC!
EDIT:
heh, totally forgot the usage notes...
Usage notes
WMLongLife will not drop back to 2G after startup before the screen has been off for like 30 seconds,
unless you connect to either Wi-Fi or USB.
You can use the "Band Switcher" app to manually force 2G, 3G (auto), 3G (only) and "WMLongLife controlled" modes. It also allows you to disconnect data, jump into the configuration, and make the background app that manages everything visible/invisible. When opening the bacground app, do NOT use the Exit button, but the X button on the topright (
only if that is set to minimize, not close!!) or Band Switcher to close it again. Actually you don't need that screen anyways unless I ask you to look at it
Note that there is an option in the configuration that will reset your "user override" to "WMLongLife controlled" as soon as the screen has been off long enough to switch back to 2G.
Also do not freak that you cannot add your own application in the configuration. The app configuration dialog will pop up when a new application first tries to connect to the internet.
The roaming options do NOT work.
Not all graphics are done yet. I'm slapping my graphics guy around to make him hurry up

Please report issues and comments, thanks. When doing so, please include (deviating from standard) setup options, exactly what happens and when, and which device you are using.
