If you wanna learn linux basics then go to linuxsurvival.com
Plus many commands need you to root your phone. After rooting your phone type "su" in the terminal and it will ask you if you want to grant it root access. Click on Grant button. Then you'll notice that the dollar sign $ changed into #.
The # sign means you have root access.
