My games play just fine.

Then you are happy with LP . The games that I play have been updated mid december and they are unplayable.
Flashed image and I was using stock kernel. Also tried with CleanROM , Euphoria OS ROMs and ElementalX and Glitch kernels with 1.7 GHz CPU and 450 MHz GPU.@idCyber I also do not have any issue with games.
I also tried Minion Rush and game runs smooth...
Update via OTA or you flashed image?
Hello, I updated from stock. not unlocked, not rooted. and my Nexus 7 is laggy as hell. everything runs slow. Facebook Force quits and chrome is unusable, games are unplayable. i have wiped, and reinstalled, restored to factory, No change. after reading the boards i see some are having problems, while others are not. i am wondering if i am doing something wrong. and i am open to suggestions. i used to use it for work, now i cannot use it at all.
Personally if I don't run any games, the tablet is smooth. When I play games, after a while performance is degraded and I have to reboot.

Dude. Its a memory leak. Known issue. I wish people would stop theorizing since it's all over android news sitesEveryone who complains about laggy units should check their available free memory because I am willing to bet that the 2013 model suffers from the same low memory issues the 2012 models suffered from.
If you are one of those (I used to be) who likes to load 500 lbs of software you use only once in a blue moon onto your device then you really need to look at getting a device with sdcard support because I have found that too much stuff on the internal memory is the leading cause of slow and sloppy units.
Did all this and mine works flawlessly
Do a factory reset first.
then follow this procedure:

Note: WIFI only devices skip the radio.img step
Right after flashing system.img, make sure to perform the extra steps of:
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
THIS WILL WIPE ALL OF YOUR DATA
was then able to root with Wugs Nexus Root Toolkit.

" The thread reveals that several Nexus devices ranging from the Nexus 7 (2013 model), the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5 were affected by the bug. The devices were eating up more than 1.2GB of RAM even though the normal usage is 500MB."

Android 5.0.2 was released for Nexus 7 2012 only and included some performance improvements for that device only. The memory leak of LP was confirmed after that by Google for all Nexus devices, fixed (supposedly) and will be released to all Nexus devices hopefully in the near future
On a slightly different but related note, I don't like the idea of having to wipe the device to get it working smooth .Android devs should seriously test updates on older used devices b4 rolling out instead of Forcing millions of users to resort to wipe the device .
I wonder how this is done in the iOS world
