I can confirm you can do it without unlocking/relocking bootloader because that is exactly what I did.

I followed the steps in my post here: http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=52411661&postcount=23

One other step was to go to the external sd card and delete or rename xzdr.prop file and allow XZDualRecovery to recreate it by rebooting.

You'll have to do some reading but here you go.

1. Use flashtool to return to stock 10.3.A.0.423
Go to flashtool.net (site is down right now, maybe you'll have to find it somewhere else)

2. Root using Doomlord's tool
