You don't have to install a custom kernel because the stock kernel is the best for now. Rooting your phone is enough to setcpu. If you want to install a custom kernel you have to unlock your bootloader ( find the guide in sonyericsson site) rooted phone and then you can install it with the folllowing order in tha command line (cmd) fastboot flash boot boot.img

Wish i helped !
Sorry for my english

If you wen't by instructions in first post, you still have stock kernel, you just hot boot your phone with recoveryNeo.img to set up root.

If you wanna go back to stock entirely, just flash ftf file with flashtool.
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1492145

You wanna lock the bootloader also, how did you unlock it?

I am having problem installing S1 fastboot drivers. I have tried drivers from OP and then from one of the post for vista. Windows 7 finds driver software but complains about install problem. Please help !!!

--------

Fixed the fastboot drivers problem. Now I am getting following message. What is going wrong?

C:\androidsdk\tools>fastboot boot recoveryNeo.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
FAILED (remote: The Device must be rooted first)
finished. total time: 0.003s
--------

BTW I have locked bootloader. I am working on unlocking it.

----

Finally managed to complete root and bootloader unlock successfully. I found drivers in flashtool.

    sorry for my english

first i did that with unlock bootloader.........

    download android sdk from here

    http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html (chose the zip file)

after download extract the file and rename it to androidsdk (you must have java)

put the folder (androidsdk) on drive c

from android sdk choose sdk manager and Mark android tools and usb drivers

after installing download this files (xperia usb driver and fastboot)

    http://www.mediafire.com/?h4sf10doc6zgu7h

first copy the files from fastboot folder and put it and androidsdk /tools

download recoveryNeo.img from here (on the first post)
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1183465

after you put the file recoveryNeo.img on androidsdk /tools

put root xperia (download the attachment) on your sdcard

    now power off your mobile

now go to fastboot mod on your mobile ( press menu while conect your usb cable)

now from your PC start choose run and type cmd then ok

copy and paste these orders (press enter after evry order)

    cd/
    cd/androidsdk/tools
fastboot devices (you must see the SN of your device)
    fastboot boot recoveryNeo.img
    after finish

    fastboot reboot

now your mobile will boot into recovery mod

    chose install zip from sdcard
now chose rootxperia.zip press power to select
after finish press back then reboot into system
    now your device is rooted

i know my english is very bad but im just trying to help

also with androidsdk you can flash any kernel boot.img ( put the boot.img on androidsdk/tools) choose run then type cmd ... press ok
    cd/
    cd androidsdk/tools
    fastboot flash boot boot.img

thanks to Bin4ry for his recoveryNeo.img

I unlocked my bootloader using the instructions given on this forum (A-Z Noob's Guide - the testpoint method) and then I followed your step by step instructions... my phone is now rooted.

    Hats off to you sir!

My 4.0.2.A.0.62 is now free, thank you!

4.0.2.A.0.62 unlocket via SE1 tool and rooted

    ok process completed successfully.

Unlocked bootloader, via testpoint method in this tool. via http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1409269.

Rooted by following all steps mentioned in this post.

    Locked the bootloader again.

Will update if any problem occurs in usage or updating.

TESTPOINT method should be used very carefully. better to take some help from another person. when connecting or disconnecting of usb cable is required it should be done from pc, microusb should always be connected to avoid moving the phone while touching the testpoint.

I know... I just wanted to unlock the bootloader and thought it is related.
My MT11i is branded, so I am BLOCKed forever.

now i think you can debranding your mobile

here you can download this WotanClient 3

    http://www.wotanserver.com/downloads/WotanClient.exe

after you install it Run it

now u turn off you mobile and turn it on on bootloader mod ( press back then conect your usb cable)

now the client must read your mobile now tick enable advanced setting ..... then chose the firmware for example 4.0.2.A.0.42 then choose CDA
then the client will download and install the firmware ( now sure it debranded)

after you can root or unlock bootloader as you like

    try and tell me
