Poor sound quality, is it the headphone or the mda compact IV?

I noticed that the sound quality (compared to my Ipod with original earplugs) of my T-mobile MDA Compact IV is verrry poor, even with the audio booster option enabled and equalized it just doesn't sound like a good mp3 player.

Is this due to the standard headphone that came with the mda compact IV or is it the device/soundprocessor itself?

(I think that I have a different headphone than the one that came with the Touch Diamond / Touch Victor, but I can't find a picture of the t-mobile headphones)

Oh and I don't mean the bug with the audio-booster option when plug/unplug the headphone, found here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=411935&highlight=diamond+sound+quality

I have some nice Sony in ear earphones (the ones that seal and block out some noise) and the sound quality is the same as my proper portable media centre mp3 player. Like it just sounds like any mp3 player.

Obviously using crappy earphones designed for phone calls are going to sound bad.
