Thanks but this conflicts with the ROM and it doesn't go beyond the kernel boot. Anyway, found an October build of CM 11 and it resolved the problem (though I'll have to stick to this old version )

Noticed no quality changes into bad side between stock and CM – imho they same in all aspects.
Till April CM use stock HAL for camera ("drivers") from 4.3Trust me on this one no matter what you do or which camera app or apk ported from Sony flagships you use, you'll never get same cam clarity as you'd get from stock firmware

It's your device fault, this was before with a few users long time ago.
Plus there no any recent commits regarding recovery / partitions.
I upgraded to latest (today) nightly, reentered recovery, twice formatted /cache, mounted and unmounted it - no errors.
