How about this, go for a clean installation, i mean just for kicks, the base comes with 1.1 red pill, just flash 1.3 over it, do not install any set CPU or voltage control, install all your apps, games whatever and use your phone for two to three days and report back

i had a look in the xml files and i found were the status bar background was and its linked to the drawable in the System UI folder so changing that png should change the background, but i think Doc must have set it to select the png from else were because it just wont change on his theme/surgeon shame really as i really like his theme, anyway heres a pic of what i achieved you can see its stretched slightly.
