:p Spice mi 500 doesn't have some imp sensors(forgor which ones),bad camera,too heavy,no root(atleast for a while,as people say),512 mb ram(while a21 is 1gb cuz it has 581 free for apps and it can install apps directly to external storage,while pn mi500 only some apps can ve moved to external),it looks way big and bulky,but who has time for watching a 12 hr video lol :D?
And yeah A21 jas qHD resolution .

yeah u r right but i req long battery as this is not my calling phone i use basically to navigation and watch movies so i req big battery big display
as i tested 2 mi 500 i get following
more than 5 days stand by with both 2g sim on
12hr video play back on single charge
5 hrs music playback on phone speaker drains 15-18 % of battery so roughly 30 hrs
i have karbon 18 also if i start gps for navigation phone doesn't last for half day also
1500 mAh karbon a18 can play video for just 3 hrs 45 min just giving comparison

this is the only site selling it check specification they diff on diff sites if u purchase it give us review i am happy to purchase that
one also i can tred my 1 mi500 also if its good

A21 has sanpdragon S4, but its S4 play.. its based on the older A5 architecture n is built on 45nm process.. so its not even close to being as fast as an S4 plus/pro SoC which are present on newer gen phones..

No one is sure yet. Igyaan's have the phone so we will be getting a review soon.So all our doubts would be cleared :D
Atleast you get a dual core snapdragon for less than 10k.
A9+ with same specs(512mb ram,4"screen)comes for less than 9k in local stores.
All we can do now is wait :cool:

i have my eye on a9+ but battery is only 1450 mAh , i dont know, how much it will stand on dual core and ips screen
i think within 6 months we will have more lots of choices and as companies releasing so many handset so fast
hope so we get the best of all

# cat /dev/mtd/mtd1(OR whichever mtd YOUR "recovery" is on) > /sdcard/recovery.img

Now upload that recovery.img file at http://builder.clockworkmod.com and see if the cwm works out for the Mi 500.

I guess you need to use # cat /proc/emmc instead of # cat /proc/mtd as this is returning empty, however this does not give the location of recovery atleast in my device ! others can report their experience

I would suggest people who are thinking of buying Mi 500 to take a look at A21 cuz someone posted this -
Today purchased the A21 from the local store here in Kolhapur @ Rs. 9,900/- Giving the details here which I think may help you a lot for the review. Also, I think this may clear many doubts from the readers.
1. The Overall build quality is OK but I can tell you that its not that much impressive as compared to MMX A100 – My previous phone. Doesn’t give that premium look at all. Although its quite light weight and handy for sure.
2. Battery is 1800 mAH which seems to be good enough for a single or even 1.5 days for the heavy user. Definitely will last longer than A100.
3. Coming to the system, the Processor is Qualcom Snapdragon clocked at 1.2 GHz. The Chipset is MSM 8625 with Dual Core ARMv7 processor.
4. GPU is Adreno 203.
5. RAM is 512 MB out of which Available RAM is 386 MB. Application Storage memory is 581 MB (Its not RAM) & Internal Storage is 2.57 GB.
6. Screen size is 4.5 Inches & the plus point is that yes its qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels.
7. Rear Camera is 5.0 MP with 2592 x 1944.
8. An Tu Tu Benchnark score was 5247 whereas Quadrant Standard gave a Benchmark score of 2502.
9. 720p HD videos played well & smoothly without any lags. (Didn’t played on my MMX A100) Yet to try the 1080p full HD videos. Will update it tomorrow.
10. HD games like ASPHALT and even heavy HD games like DEAD TRIGGER, CS PORTABLE were played without any lags at all. Quite amazing experience as compared to MMX A100.
11. Loudspeaker quality is OK but not as loud as on A100. Headphone quality is average.
12. All the Sensors are there like Light, Proximity and G-Sensor. No Magnetic Sensor though.
13. 5.0 MP Camera is able to record videos at 720 x 480 HD resolutions only. Camera quality is a little bit higher though as compared to A100. Yet to check the Picture quality at night though.
14. Multi touch tester shows 5 Multi-touch points (Same as A100 but) but I can tell you that the touch response is very good as compared to most of the devices in this range. Awesome.
15. I think KARBONN haven’t done any Customization at all for ICS. Standard OS is as it is.
Will update in couple of days about the other details when I go through it. I think its enough for the people to make the decision.
I think its worth the cost especially looking at the qHD Screen, 1.2 GHz Dual Core, Flawless performance, etc.

Hello ,
the spice mi 500 is arm v9 series high speed and 7 stage pipelining processor new tech than arm v7 weight is 200 to 250 gms,presently play all normal games like angry birds ,temple run cut the rope ,amazing alex speed is high and video playback is very nice like hd 720p is good battery back up is nice at full use 18 hours (gaming and Movies).....battry saver series arm 9.......

MTK requires a Flash Tool to load ROMs. I have made a detailed guide for Installing CWM on ZOPO which can be accessed here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1899412

Note ZOPO device comes rooted but without CWM and hence my requirement was slightly different.

You can use this method to flash CWM and use the options including making a nandroid backup, but I am not sure if flashing any of the available Su signed.zip files in this forums will effectively root this device (this was method to root the earlier Spice MI 410).

I am not a dev and maybe a dev/experienced member can comment on this.

Nevertheless this is a beginning ! If anyone make headway please do share and report for others benefit.

Also note there are many MTK 6577 devices and some have already released MODs based on Stock Rom. PLEASE DO NOT FLASH THEM since rest of the device hardware is very different !

Please read through my posting above and after your have successfully flashed CWM, run the attached file via CWM. You should get root !

if i flashed ur cmw recovery thro sp tool how can i revert back if anything goes wrong
if somebody have original rom then we can experiment

Take a look at Droidiser post #18. If that method works fro you, take a back up of your Stock Recovery. In case you want to revert to the original recovery just replace the CWM recovery with Stock recovery in the ROM and flash only the recovery option via SP Tool. Also once you get CWM dont forget to immediately take a backup of your fully working stock rom, before even trying to flash the zip file. That way you will be safe !

    Hi friends and spice mi 500 owners!
    As local devices like mi 500 don't have a separate section for them on xda, here's a specific thread for our mi 500 where you can share everything related to the phone: ROMs, recoveries, themes, games you can play and everything that can be done on an Android.

    Rooting your phone:

    1. Download Bin4ry rooting tool from his thread.
    2. Install drivers on your windows pc using pdanet.
    3. Connect your phone to your pc.
    4. Unzip Bin4ry's tool and run the RunMe.bat batch script.
    5. Follow the instructions that roll in the command window and you will be done.

    A big thanks to Nileshtambe for this.

    ClockworkMod ported to Spice Mi 500!
    1. Download CWM or TWRP recovery.
    2. Rename the downloaded file to recovery.img and transfer it to your phone's sd card.
    3. Download Mobile uncle MTK Tools from Play Store.
    4. Open the app and select update recovery.
    5. Select yes in the confirmation dialog and your recovery will be flashed.

    Invalid imei (solved)

    Invalid imei is solved just follow below steps
    * require root access *

    copy file containing IMEI codes MP0B_001 with root explorer
    The file containing the IMEI codes (MP0B_001) in Android systems with processor MTK65XX, is in the following location: /data/nvram/md/NVRAM/NVD_IMEI/MP0B_001

    copy it to the Desktop with Windows 2000/XP/7

    Place it in a folder created called IMEI in C:\Documentes and Settings\User\ and insert the files imei.exe (which i have uploaded in attachment) and MP0B_001.

    Now open a cmd window by typing start -> run -> cmd -> chdir C: \ -> chdir C: \ IMEI

    Inside the cmd window, type: imei.exe[space] IMEI1 [space] IMEI2 Example : imei.exe 123456789000 123456789000

    This will create a new file called MP0B_001_NEW

    delete MP0B_001 file

    now rename MP0B_001_NEW to MP0B_001

    now connect your mobile and send this file in any folder in your mobile

    now open root explorer and copy MP0B_001 ( which we make in computer ) to this location
    /data/nvram/md/NVRAM/NVD_IMEI/MP0B_001

    overwrite the file and all done

    now restart your mobile and your imei is restored
