So what's the difference between radios in Vivo rom and the radio in the unbranded br ROM?

I'm having weird problems with the BR roms -- sounds associated with unlock and/or notifications change to random other sounds (from my own mp3 files, not the ones that came with the phone) after reboot.

I first started having these problems with the Vivo rom, so I reflashed the other LATAM rom (which I think was the Argentinean ROM) and then I flashed the retail BR rom on top, but I'm still having problems with sounds assignments after power down/power up.

Radio driver have nothing to do with sounds assignments. Radio driver guides comunications like wi-fi, gsm, data, gps... Nothing else.

Both radios aren't working flawless and I have my thougths about that. Think it's cheap hardware delivered by motorola, not only a software related issue.

Folks in every part are complaing about low wi-fi and gsm signals. Take a look in the forum and you'll see it.

What is exactly your assignment problems? Sounds changes? Are damaged? What? You may have a hardware issue there.

By the way:

The differece between radios is that in vivo rom things works, like sms/mms. In retail there's a bug that prevents you for saving Service Center Number in configs *#*#4636#*#*

;)

For last: where did u get the mp3 files? It may contain bad behavior scrips or be corrupted. Try changing it. Even your way for making ringtones (softwares)

Thank you Captain Obvious for pointing out that radios have nothing to do with sounds. I don't know why you decided to post that when I asked what's the difference in radios between the vivo and unbranded roms. I wish someone would post the Canadian fastboot files for download (or ICS update comes out soon) as I haven't had any problems with my original Canadian rom.

Now for the sounds -- my problem is that after each reboot the screen unlock sounds (which are system sounds and which you can't even change thru UI) default to my ringtone. So when I power on my phone and unlock it, my default ringtone starts playing at full blast volume. If I disable screen unlock sounds and then enable them again everything gets back to normal.

You aren't getting ICS for quite some time if you're on a canadian Razr. They just got an update for 2.3.6, which means I'm guessing they've had delays in their release of ICS. I'd prefer we get fastboot files for that, but not really sure how fastboot files get "released". For a nandroid, all it takes is one brave member, but I think fastboots are a bit more complicated. Can anyone post instructions on how to get a fastboot file from a phone?

Oh, I'd be willing to take my chances on the nandroid 2.3.6 restore (from the Canadian phone) then.

People have tried to restore to the 2.3.6 nandroid and it doesn't work. Nandroid does not change your kernal or your radio, which I believe are the only reasons you would update to 2.3.6. Again, really think we need someone who has the update to create a fastboot image.

Ah, I see about nandroid restore.

Well, my understanding of the fastboot files is that they are signed by Moto and the ones made public were leaked. Am I wrong on that?

One thing to note here is that Wifi, BT and FM is handled by one chip (I think its WiLink from TI) and has nothing to do with Motorola radio.

Motorola's radio is for CDMA, GSM, etc.

From my experience from using various other GSM modules, the GSM system in Brazil is crippled especially because of broken handoff handling. And I note that Vivo seems to have even more broken handoff than any other operator in Brazil.

That said, I believe radios in Brazil would need some tweak to handle handoff correctly. And motorola needs to make a specific radio FW for it to work correctly here.

Sorry, I don't know the difference between Vivo's and unbranded radio, and I don't think it should be much different, but I expect all brazilian radios will be "broken" in Canada.

I would try to flash the EU radio, because I believe Canada's GSM system would be more standard (like in the EU), and maybe there is no signature check for radio FW.

Good luck.

For what it's worth, I tried (well, I didn't try, I succeeded ;)) flashing the en.eu radio on the canadian phone and it did work (so no signature verification there). However I ended up with the /cache partition of 12Mb after the operation (it might have been caused by a botched attempt to flash en.eu ROM first tho) so I couldn't install any app larger than 12Mb afterwards which actually prompted me to flash the brazilian ROM.

Nice to hear it works.

Well, you can get the Brazilian ROM, open it and remove the radio.img, also I think you may have to tweak the XML files (or something like that) to remove the reference to radio.img, then flash it over, that way, I think you will get your cache back, and it won't overwrite your radio.

Or just use fla**** to reflash the cache from the BR ROM

Good luck :)

Well, to be honest I would prefer to flash the Canadian ROM. Both Vivo and unbranded ROM I've tried do have some non-radio related issues on my phone.

PS. I can't flash a developer's edition on the bootlocked phone, right?
