hi all

I have noticed that after flashing the a nightly build some applications such as the camera are getting lost, is installing gapps needed everytime we install a nightly build?

also I have noticed that sometimes all my widgets are getting lost and only the clock remains, is anyone else experiencing this bug?

Gapps do not need to be flashed after every new build. Are you using the gapps CM recommends? I have noticed that widget issue in the past, though do not know what causes it.

They are recommending gapps-kk-20131208 in the cyanogenmod website which (in my case at least) results in no camera application at all
So I installed pa-gapps-stock-4.4.2-20131230 and got everything back to order.

The thing is that the widget issue has happened quite a few times and I havent found the sequence of events leading to it

Hello forum,

first of all, I'm unsure whether this is the correct place for this question, if it's not, please could you forward me to the correct place?

I have currently installed CM11-20140102 and I've noticed that the battery drains a lot compared to CM-10.x.

FWIW, I typically set my phone to use 2G data and I switch to 3G when I'm browsing the internet or playing. But since installing CM11 I've noticed that the battery lasts just half a day when only enabling 3G. After googling a bit, I found that some people [1] claims that the battery is astounding, which makes me feel odd about this topic.

In order to check this, I left my as much as in standby mode as I could (i.e. no activity or very little activity during the experiment) in the same place (so the network signal was about the same) but in three different conditions: no data connection (baseline for battery consumption), 2G only enabled, 2G&3G enabled. The attached screenshots [2, 3, 4] show respectively the battery status for those conditions. You'll notice that in [2], 20% of the battery was consumed in about 10 hours, in [3] 46% was consumed in approximately 10 hours, and in [4] 22% was consumed with 8.5 hours. Normalizing such numbers, we observe that

[2] no data connection, 20% / 10hours = 2% per hour
[3] 2G only, 46% / 10 hours = 4.6% per hour
[4] 2G&3G, 22% / 8.5 hours = 2,5% per hour

which is surprising. In CM-10.x, 2G was extremely battery saving compared to 2G+3G (sorry, have no numbers for that), however CM11 does not follow such behavior, which is very strange as 2G was supposed to be less energy consuming.

Has anyone experienced such battery consumption behavior?

Thank you

Hello again forum,

I'd just did some additional tests with CM11-20140116, now with 2G-only enabled (see pictures [5, 6]). Again, there was a large battery drain, used up to 51% in approximately 10h 3/4, which turns into ~ 5% per hour. In [6] I noticed that the cellphone was "awake" half the time and in [5] I observed that Agenda Widget for Android was active 11% of the time. As I have some issues with that widget (I can't use it since I installed CM11), I decided to remove it from the cellphone and redo the test. Screenshots [7] show that after 19h, my Galaxy Nexus using CM11 only used 41% of the battery, which is an impressive 2% per hour (always in these tests with very minimal consumption - i.e., no activity).

So, to conclude, it seems that the widget was not only not able to work with CM11, but also it was draining my battery! Removed it!!

I use PA GAPPS as well, i need to install any additional modules after installing a new nightly build. By additional modules i mean photosphere, google dialer etc. Stange thing is on the PA gapps page they are sure this is not neccesary (but it is!).

Widgets are fine in my case.

Hello,

I've just noticed that -M2 does not appear in my CyanogenMod updates. I'm running 20140116 nightly which I think it's later than -M2, but shouldn't -M2 appear despite of that ?

Thank you!
