Its not that rough, its kind of like an aircraft wing however i would be the only one who knows what that feels like. So like the amaze kind of. The reason I am upgrading is the one series will hands down have better def support. Its an international phone S-off or S-On it will still have good support not to mention the roms will probably be interchangeable. I think the one V is for the countries that don't have strong Data speeds. You also have to take into account that the amaze can compare with Image Sense. The sensors their just are just to good for the amaze to compete. Not to mention all the features. I the camera on the one S wins hands down

Yeah.. i dont like that at all, if i have a aluminum phone, it should be coated with a soft coat; it might be just that i have ocd, but i hate things with a rough feel lol. i think image sense has its bugs, and if i were to get one of the phones be it s or x i will wait a few months for all those to be fixed. ive learned the hard way not to buy a htc right when release, learned by buying the mytouch 4g when it came out, and this phone lol. yeah, i do agree though. the camera alone is worth a upgrade IF you have the money to put down, i wouldnt scrape money for it though like most people would have to this day of age lol.

If it's 2-3 months or even longer I have no problem with that. Til then it works just fine. It's more important to get the ICS update right than get in a hurry to satisfy impatient people and put out crap.

I dont dont disagree with your sentiment..or disapprove of your timeline.
However your idea of "soon" is comical.:D
Google is a bunch of pansies and there announcement with handset makers etc about update timelines was a fraud. Only thing they promised was 18months of support. No minimums no requirements for latest software etc. All anyone has to do is dump a crappy update of an outdated version to fulfill there obligation.
ICS isnt even on Nexus S4gs and they sold out an exclusive to VZ for ics and GN. Its pathetic. By the time most late 2011 phones get it JB/5.0 will be on the table. Carriers and OEMs are intentionally holding back updates to sell newer phones. Its disgusting and Google doesnt give a crap. Sorry much as Ive backed Android the fragmentation is a full blown intentional plague at this point. Consumers are getting screwed.

Google has no power to force anyone to upgrade anything not named Nexus. Put the blame where it belongs. And get an understanding of open source.

Please.... Google is not innocent in these update shenanigens.
It's exactly what he said above you:

Sell as much of the old craps before its obsolete....tomorrow.

So after tiring if the hype I did some reading of the one series.
Wow do we get screwed
The one s is such a mediocre piece of hard ware compared to the one x.
:(
Let's not even mention processor type or speed. I already know they clicked pretty close.
It just seems like the one s is a parts bin phone, with a fancy case.
I just saw and read about the one s screen....
WTF HTC :/

supposedly it is the same or looks the same as the droid razr screen. Which when I looked at the dr I was seriously disapointed, worse than samsungs awful displays.

I dunno screen quality is uber important to me, that's why I easily choose the g2x(which of course I traded up for amaze) over the gs2.

I also read that tmo may get the one x larlter on this year but honestly for me, I'm not upgrading my amaze for something that's only a little better. Again all imo.
I dunno some people like the samoled displays, me I think they are garbage, look awful. And if the one s is Like the dr screen .... no thanks .

Besides amaze have ics soon....right?
RIGHT?

How so? Please explain how Google can force OEMs or carriers to update open source software.

How so? Except for screen size and onboard memory, they're nearly identical. As for me, I'd prefer the smaller size and metal body of the One S anyway.

No matter 'cause I'll keep this Amaze for a long time. Jeez, I just got it!

Isn't the One X ATT&T version slower than One S because they had to scrap the quad core and replace it with Dual Core to get it to work with AT&T? OR that's what I thought.

quad core for europe, dual core here.

Thanks! That's what I thought so too. So is the europe version compatible with US Tmobile?

I think the US One X is slower that the One S as both are dual core, or even the European One X with quad core?

by the way, what's your average quadrant scores with the amaze? I'm only getting around 2533ish scores using the energy rom. I saw in tmonews.com the One S scores being around 4000+.

Testing has shown the dual core version to actually be faster than the quad core in many situations. The S4 Snapdragon dual core is very, very good. Heck, the S3 in the Amaze is pretty quick.

Add to that the fact that most software still isn't optimized to take advantage of dual cores much less quad cores and the dual core vs quad core debate becomes even less important.

Actually the tests that I saw showed the x to be just a tad faster at some things and about the same at other tasks.
And to answer your question I don't see how you can quantify the phones being the same when clearly they are not.
Screens are TOTALLY different and 99% of the reviews and comments I have read have said the samoled is just awful.
The one s screen has been compared to the DX screen....and that ...is not good. Lol. But hey I'm with you I ain't trading my amaze for any of the ones.

I guese we can agree to disagree, which is where I think most opinions will fall for the one series.

Google isnt who has to optimize it, its NVidia. with their drivers. and people who keep on track with them know they have great driver support; much better than AMD (qualcomm).

edit: the fith core has nothing to do with power, its optimized to save battery. Nvidia wouldn't have made it if it was too hard to optimize anyways. and companys wouldnt use it, im sure it will be great once more drivers come out and such

The lack of an external SD card slot on the One S is really odd to me, just like the same omission on the Galaxy Nexus was. That for me is a no-go, which is funny now considering when I had an iPhone I didn't even care about not having it. Now that I have it, they can pry it from my dead cold hands!

Keeping the Amaze for now

Amaze finally got the S-Off, hopefully that'll bring in some good roms, if so I'm sure sense 4 will come. The only upside to the One S is (to me) the super Amoled display and how thin it is.. other then that, No NFC, No removable Battery, No SD upgrade. It does however get free drop box storage, forgot how many gigs extra you get when you buy the One S.

ok some interesting development.....

i left work early. So I went home, got off my car, and i had to bend down to pick up my laptop bag....and whalla the phone fell off my breast pocket to the asphalt... nasty scratches in front since the unibody doesnt protect the lense's sides. my ghost armor screen protector saved the screen but not the edges... and luckily I have a spare new unibody case.

but now the front is messed up.... i guess it is a signal to go get another phone....

especially i'm picky with my toys/gadgets.

i'm using the faux kernel i believe. i downloaded it with the nrg rom since without it wifi wasn't working.....

Try the stock kernel in the fourth post of nrgz thread. I was on faux kernel too but i had to go to stock bcuz of bad battery life. Have you flashed ext4 recovery yet? If you have, in the op of the ext4 recovery thread, there is a link for nrgz stock kernel that you can flash straight through recovery

i dont like the fact the amaze has an internal sd

... as opposed to what? I thought nearly ALL phones with sd card slots were "internal". My Touch Pro 2's is, and i prefer it that way to keep dust and such from getting into it. But then i dont swap it out on a regular basis. I prefer a single card.

But I agree, as soon as i read the One's were not upgrade-able/replaceable, that pretty much closed it off for me. I wouldn't mind the more powerful hardware, but the severe lack of upgradability is a huge disappointment.

I dont want my information on a 'cloud' burning up data usage when adding an SD slot would negate that. Just because data usage is available doesn't mean we should be Forced to use it for everyday use. What if the network went down, or has high traffic, slowing it down? what if your in a shielded area with low or no signal?

That's like saying Cars can use smaller gas tanks because there's gas stations everywhere. True as it would be, it would be very inconvenient, especially if you wanted to take a longer trip (le* bigger file)

Tho, ive never been a fan of cloud storage either. I just dont trust having my data "out there" where i cant control it, or secure it.

I don't get why some of you like to drop so much cash on new phones that do the same thing. Talk about wasting money.

Great feedback, a few questions for you as you seem to be the man with a plan when it comes to the Amaze.

I've had the Amaze since November or so and I've just gotten around to rooting it. Having never rooted before, I'm now seeing the usefulness of the External SD and removable battery that I thought I could cope without come the One series. After talking with my local HTC rep [I work in cell retail], the One S is looking pretty nice from a regular consumer standpoint(although the one he let me demo was a 'prototype'].I havn't gotten any hands on time with the One X and thats the phone i've been doing reading on, and finding out everything I could.

I've seen the benchmark for the One X dual core with the Snapdragon S4 and it's pretty mind blowing, I can't seem to find a direct One X Quad Core Tegra 3 vs Dual core benchmark after some light searching while typing this.

In your opinion would I be better off staying with my Amaze and waiting to see the full potential of ROMS to come? If not, which version of the HTC One X would be the better choice? I'm running on Mobilicity which is an AWS carrier but it looks like both models will support it.

I'm fantastic when it comes to stock version of android phones, but being rooted is a whole new ballgame.

Here is the best benchmark comparison with the s4 and the tegra 3. all around the tegra 3 is better, dont listen to people saying the s4 is better when most people have only seen quadrant benchmark comparisons. which dont really mean anything. overall, if you are just going to be using your phone for calls and want fluid and barely lag. i would go with the s4. if you want some great graphics in gaming (tegra zone "THD" games look the best out of any games) and you aim more towards entertainment and what not then i would go with the tegra 3. now, if you are going to just play angry birds and stuff like that i wouldnt even think about the tegra lol, all four cores would run at like 500mhz if that

    http://www.technobuffalo.com/comparisons/benchmarked-nvidia-tegra-3-vs-qualcomm-snapdragon-s4/

its never good to buy a phone RIGHT when it comes out; you, along with other people do not know if and what problems it will have. i have learned this the hard way with a few android phones i have bought including this phone. if you are desperate for a new phone i would wait a few weeks before getting any of the one series. also, the only good way to test it is the one x vs one xl. the one x has much more pixels to push than the one s, and still beats it in some test, expecially graphic comsuming test.

    http://www.technobuffalo.com/compan...te-fix-replacements-for-one-s-chipping-issue/

to your last question: Well, we are close to acheiving s-off and close to getting ICS (i think). after that, we should have better development going on. thats just my opinion though.

edti: i plan on selling/trading my amaze for a WP7 and stick with that until androids fragmention settles (if it ever does). and see what Microsoft brings with Apollo, and what Google brings with Jellybean.

My friend just got a one s from tmo and I got to play with it and right from the get go I was not impressed. It felt so flimsy in my hand and cheaply made, like if I dropped it it would shatter. The camera is nice but that's about it. I personally would not pay for that phone lol, I told him to take it back and exchange it for an amaze. Ha ha

    Sent from the morgue.

I had an upgrade available on one of my lines, so I went to AT&T with the One X in mind. I will admit, its a sexy looking device, but it does feel really cheap. Coming from a Galaxy Note, I was also having a hard time aclimating to the size of the One X. The rep told me the camera can snap 99 pictures in 4 seconds. First thing that came to my mind, was how quickly the storage would get filled up. Besides, who the heck needs a csmera that can shoot 99 photos in 4 seconds? I guess if you're serious about photography, that would come in handy. But then again, those who are serious about photography, aren't going to use a camera phone to snap photos. That, and the non removeable battery, and lack of SD support, I chose to use my upgrade to get a second Galaxy Note. :D only this time, I got a black one, and sold my white Note today, locally, for $450. ;) I made a profit of $200. :)

I think you would notice it on a 4.7 inch screen. Hell, my mytouch has a 3.8 in hdpi screen and I can tell a difference between that phone and my amaze. Maybe you need glasses? ;)

I said much of a difference. The current screens are very good nowadays anyway, the differences are miniscule. And I already wear glasses :p

btw, samsung can kiss my ass!
