I have a couple hardware issues with my device, the power button will trigger itself and awake my device or open a reboot menu out of nowhere and now no right speakers will work when using the headphone jack (earbuds, aux cables, etc.). I really don't want to trade it for a refurbished S3 with a locked bootloader but these issues might force me to. Should I just run this thing until the wheels fall off or take the replacement?

I'm also eligible for an upgrade but I don't think I'm ready to say goodbye to unlimited data just yet, plus I've been so out of the loop I have no idea what the current flagship devices are.

Thanks.

If this is the only phone (daily driver) then you should trade it in. You would rather have a stable locked bootloader and 4.4 is not bad at all.

I'm trying to find out if 4.4 is even rootable but to no avail. Is there a guide here on Xda or is it basically untouchable altogether?

Yes, 4.4 is rootable very easy and safe. Go here towelroot.com download the app to your phone, run the app, tab on the button, let your device reboot, then download Supersu from Playstore install it, and you're done.

I called, they said my device was out of warranty and I'd have to pay an insurance deductible of $100. I ordered a new jack/speaker peice off Amazon for $7 and got it in 2 days. Swapped it out in 5 minutes and it's working good as new.

Version never ceases to amaze me with their nickle and diming. They tried to get me to upgrade my device for a good 10 minutes as well.
