I believe it's useful for sake of clarity to concentrate in a single TD the search of the rooting method for the new firmaware JB 4.3 and its detailed explanation.

So far I have seen this post http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=51395773&postcount=38 from gamer649 mentioning the methods NOT working
this post http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=51397314&postcount=48 from rsrishabh suggesting another method (anyone with a follow-up ?)
and finally this post http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=51425160&postcount=99 claiming an easy method; StraightEdgeKid, could you please elaborate your method here ?

Thanks haresh311999 and...I'm noticing now that a thread devoted on how to root JB 4.3 on xperia M already exists here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2696259 even if it is in a different sub-forum !!!

My apologies and please disregard this thread that I have erroneously originated !!!!!!!

Umm, not really. At this point many many of us are hoping for a root method that doesn't involve screwing around with the bootloader. So your post and question is quite pertinent :)

I believe the point andyxoxo is making has a lot of sense: haresh311999's methods works only with unlocked bootloaders. People who cannot unlock bootloaders or doesn't want (myself), doesn't have a working rooting tool/method. Let's write in this thread our effort (I changed the title accordingly).

So far among the known methods only what rsrishabh is suggesting has to be tested.

I've tested kingo root once but it didn't work (or maybe I didn't give it time to complete). I'm gonna try again now.

If you flash 4.3 on top of 4.1.2 won't it wipe system including root? Or did I not get it. If you think it will work I can try it later.

Well, I have rooted my phone with flashing 4.1 kernel and then this SuperSU app from here.
http://download.chainfire.eu/382/SupeSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip
Then again flashed 4.3 kernel.

I think this method might work.
Bcz if we select not to wipe user data, it will keep the user apps and data, I'm not sure what happens with system apps and SuperSu is system app, yeah?

Possibly it won't.
This is just my guess.
It will keep the SuperSU app but it will not have the "root" power.
It's just a guess, someone must try on locked bootloaders.

Many thanks @joemarshall, with the info you posted I managed to finish a script to root 4.3 without unlocking bootloader. I'll redo the process one more time to ensure it's working and it's stable and then I post back the method :victory:

    OMG GUYS, HOLY SHAWIRMA

    I FLIPPING DID IT
ok this is what i did

I downloaded the ftf file from one of the links. I then extracted the system.sin file from the ftf. I converted it into the .ext4 format. I opened up the file using Android kitchen (i thinkz). I pushed the su binary into the ext4. I then recompiled it into the ftf and flashed it on my phone. IT WORKSSSS. No bugs and no glitches. I will upload the ftf as soon as i can. Where should i upload?, btw.

I left out a lot of steps in that explanation, i had to set perms and there were many more steps, that process was what i did, in short

Bro its working for me but with the following issues...

Best part is I have full root in my M dual BUT :crying:

1: Xperia theme is not working..
    Tried the following
Tried to move content of 'system' inside the runtimeskin.zip ( found here) to its respective places in my device (to system/etc/permission and system/framework).
I even tried to move the theme apk to system/app..

But non of the above method seems to work for me

    2:
Previously in my 4.2.2 I was using Android reverse tethering tu use the internet of my desktop in my phone but it doesnt seem to work any more.

Did we do anything wrong in the process. Please help me

My method gives you root access in 4.3 and nothing more. For those issues you should blame Sony, not I, the only modification that I did was injecting SuperSU in the update...

I can get CWM recovery loaded, but I have no way of knowing whether it is working without flashing a zip. I a)don't have a flashable zip of 4.3, and b)am a bit scared of getting myself into a pickle on a bootloader locked device by flashing something untested. I also don't have a ftf file for my current version,

It's just done a nandroid backup and it did it fine, but not sure if I dare try a restore!

Anway, instructions to get recovery loaded on 4.1 or 4.2:

    1) Your device should be rooted, (presumably running a version of 4.1 or 4.2 stock rom)
    2) Put the recovery gz file attached onto the root of your device's internal storage (this file came out of the unlocked bootloader recovery zip).
3)Launch a shell using adb shell in a command prompt, and run the below:
    Code:
    su
    stop
    mount -o remount,rw /system
busybox zcat /sdcard/recovery.gz | busybox cpio -ui
    /sbin/recovery
    [CODE]

Recovery should appear. You should have options to flash zips, the kind of thing you expect from recovery.

If anyone can find a flashable zip / ftf of 4.3 stock and get the system image out and make a flashable zip of it, that would be super. Must be stock kernel not Cyanogen I presume as the bootloader is locked. You also need an FTF file for flashing the rest of the stuff except for system.

The process to root would I think be:

    1)Open recovery following instructions above
2)Flash a rooted stock 4.3 system image, or flash a stock system image plus the superuser executable stuff from the link above.
3)Use Flashtool to write the boot.img, radio etc from the FTF file (everything except system I guess). Otherwise GPS, mobile data etc. won't work.

Anyone fancy giving a try? Anyone know why it won't work?

    Joe
