But here's the truth, according to a person briefed on Google's plans for the merger: while Google may have originally wanted to buy Motorola for its patents only, it has come to realize that it wants to follow Apple's lead when it comes to smartphone and tablet computer development. A second source, also briefed on Google's plans for Motorola, confirms this is true.

Well, it would be strange to own Motorola and give HTC money for building Nexus X.

no, it wouldnt. google and motorola will never be one and the same. and google doesnt want to lose htc, samsung, sony, etc., and having motorola building all the nexus devices would lead to that.

I hope to see something really interesting coming google with motorola, specially unlocking bootloaders!!
