Serial numbers play a big role too, my brother got his z1 compact a few weeks after me and he hasn't even received the 2nd 4.3 firmware on PC Companion or OTA

I got mine on day of release from CPW and yet I still don't have the update? Anything I can do to trigger the update
Ditto here. I have a SIM-free UK phone bought from an independent retailer and never received the second 4.3 either (in any form). Do you think your network operator affects the OTA update if you bough SIM-free from an non-network-operator? (I'm on O2-UK network). Was your brother also on Giffgaff like you?
As for your 4.4, did you receive an OTA update notification as well as via PC Companion?

When you guys upgraded to KitKat without wiping your phone first do any existing apps get removed so they have to be reinstalled?
I ask because I just read that due to the new SD card restrictions done apps could be deleted when the OS is updated to KitKat.

I'm on giffgaff too living in the UK and my z1 compact is unlocked so my question is ' how did you receive the KikKat update? '
Yeah, mine was wiped when I flashed it last night. Lucky I didn't have much on it

The phone is running much faster than 4.3 and I'm definitely liking the changes I've seen so far. No issues for me either at the moment.
Oh and I've answered my question from before, no apps have been deleted.

What were you doing when you received the update on your phone? And where about do you live eg. Which country?
Just asking because I have problems with the download
