Well folks, I've been working on this for several days so as to make sure I'm not being a pest. I had a soft-brick from a failed CWM restore several days ago. I have flashed to stock, flashed webtop to stock, and rooted. I've also tried webtop2sd on R3BLURR3D and Liberty RC1 with the same results.

I am consistently getting a FC immediately after the second partition formats. If I partition and format the card myself, then the FC happens immediately after I tap on confirmation after Go!

Error Message: The application webtop2sd (process net.toreishi.webtop2sd) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm pretty well open to anything now. I can flash to stock, any other rom, or any tool as I'm not going to set everything on the phone back up until I get this working.

Thanks!!

Gave it a go, have a couple of questions...

I downloaded and ran the 2.0.1 installer on my Bionic, and it appears to have worked correctly, as I used a brand-new class 10 MicroSD card, and I let the app partition the card, etc.

I am sure these will probably appear as newb-ish questions, so please bear with me:

What I am still confused about is:

1. How can I tell if my phone is booting off of the webtop2sd partition? It seems to launch much faster, but I allocated about 3GB of my card to this and I still don't seem to have better memory performance with Firefox, etc. Is it even possible to add the swap partition also? It seemed to me the other thread I saw about the swap partition trick seemed to only apply to the integrated app. I am definitely not a linux ninja though.

2. Is it possible to use the memory card with the phone for other purposes with the webtop2sd partition? Do I need to add another FAT32 partition, etc? I need to use the card for general storage also, such as nandroid backups, etc.

Thanks guys, please advise.

App FC immediately

Immediately upon opening Webtop2sd I get a FC after allowing SU. Popup says: "The application webtop2sd (process net.toreishi.webtop2sd) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Any ideas?

I really want to see how this performs on the internal /data (internal "sdcard").

I've come so far as to create swap and ext3 partitions on the external sdcard. Still, on the low-grade stock card, gains can barely be noticed. I'd imagine internal sdcard performance is much better for power-usage.

When can we get this so-called "earlier" update? :D I'll be happy to test anything on the way to a better, meaner webtop on the Bionic.

Thanks

back pedal

ditto, i would love to have option to have it running off internal also. that would be ultimately sweet. but just to get past the initial fc as soon as i open the app would be a great start for now lol. im going to back pedal through the thread to see if somethings posted.

What system release are you running. I had the same problem when I was running 5.7.X version.. I then flash the Liberty 3 ROM and webtop2sd worked.. No more force close issue.

Webtop2toSD does not work for me

Webtop2toSD does not work for me. I partitioned the sd card onboard with the built in utility and with gparted. I have a 4gb card, with 3 gb for linux ext3 partition.
I get the three new icons on AWN, the manager, configurator and terminal. However, clicking any of those doesn't do anything.
The bar disappears for a second, a block appears in the top left corner and then everything comes back to normal.

Any ideas? what am I doing wrong?

Errors out for me also on rootrd/ota 5.9.901, linux swapspace works though. And that is where I believe more performance is gained. And I found I didn't have much luck running any packages well, thru synaptic anyway.

Swap space plus the weptop updates in .901 fixed the low memory errors I was constantly getting. So i'm happy with that improvement :)

i may have missed something - how did you get synaptic on there without webtop2sd?

Unfortunately synaptic works to well ;9. I installed xfce gnome bunch of other stuff and filled the 999000 drive space. OOPS now synaptic won't run for me to remove things. How could someone manually remove a package to make some room? Guess I could fastboot the webtop, start over. no harm there really other than the time...

Or yeah the webtop2sd apk working would be nice. FC on 901 here too.

ok deleted all parial and downloaded synaptic files. Now it starts, under preferences/files set synaptic to delete downloaded packages after install.

5.5.893

Has anyone been able to run this on 5.5.893? I am also seeing the FC issue but wanted to check so I know if it was something I have done or not.

Has development stopped completely for this? As with 5.5.893, I get FC with 5.9.902

Is there another script or instructions for doing something similar by hand?

this may help someone out. i was getting fc's after moving to 902. i found that if i ran titanium backup it would say my phone didnt have full root access and it would ask if titanium backup could fix the root permisions. after i would do that webtop to SD would work.

I flashed to eclips 2.1 and webtop worked fine on that.

moral of the story is to chek your root access make sure you are rooted properly. :D :D :D

Party's over??

Obviously I'm arriving to this party after everyone has left - heheh. Just checking if there is any hope of getting webtop2sd up on rooted 5.9.902? I didn't have any installation problems with 2.0.1 but I don't see any change in the webtop at this point.
After the reboot when installation completed I see the partition was created (split 16gb card into 8 webtop + 7 sd apps) partitions. And webtop2sd diagnostics reports "Currently mounted webtops: webtop mmcblk0p2".

I saw a post that seemed to indicate users need to 'move webtop to new partition' ? I am just trying to determine if I need to move apps to the new partition and/or manually boot into that to use the 'new' webtop installation. Any help would be appreciated.

Note: Please keep this thread restricted to Bionic-specific issues. Atrix (and general) webtop2sd issues should be discussed in this thread instead. Threads for other devices are referenced at the top of the main webtop2sd thread.

Discuss webtop2sd here (the other thread will be kept clean for announcements, FAQs, etc.).

    Before you report an issue:

Make sure it's not on the Known Issues list first!.

Basic debugging, since these are going to be questions I ask anyways:

    • If you hit problems with the Android webtop2sd application, you'll need to tell me the error, and give me the last few lines of adb logcat. Run this adb command, which will filter out most of the unimportant lines:
      • adb logcat ActivityManager:i AndroidRuntime:i webtop2sd:i *:s
    • Are you actually booting from your SD card? You can find this out by checking the Diagnostics tab in webtop2sd, under "Currently mounted webtops". If webtop isn't listed, you're not booted from your SD card. If this is the case, report what ROM you're running from.
    • Don't worry about webtop-configurator on the Droid Bionic for now. The current version won't work, but the next version will.

Note: One of the early updates will involve being able to create a filesystem file in /data so that you don't need an SD card (something that was present in earlier versions of my scripts but ended up being impractical for the Atrix, but is quite practical for the Bionic).

Thanks to tallnerd1985, who made this port possible.
