So I have been trying all day to try and update my firmware. I have recovered to a stock rom but I can not get the recovery.img to flash. I keep getting errors. "error: cannot load 'recovery.img'". Renamed the file put it in multiple spots and it is not flashing. I would appreciate it if any one could help. It seems as if it is not reading the location but I can send command prompts to my phone. I want to receive OTA updates so that I can be on 4.4.3 and then flash to ViperRom 2.3.0.

We need more info to try to help you.
What exactly are you trying to do? If i understood correctly you are trying to get back to stock so that you can receive OTA.

can you post the output of "fastboot getvar all"

Let's start from there. Of course remember to delete your imei and serial from the output

Make sure the extension on your PC is not hidden.
When it is hidden, it reads recovery.img.img and it fails.

I am on a Mac. As for the previous question yes I am trying to update my firmware from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 via OTA then flash the Viper rom. I didnt know it was going to be such a PIA for the less code savvy like my self.

You are on T-Mobile so you need 2.22.531.5 firmware.
You can download here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712458943

To flash it you need to save zip in your fastboot folder.
Reboot to bootloader

fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware-2.22.531.5.zip
If it fails first time repeat the flash zip command immediately

After firmware flash completes you will need to reflash your custom recovery

You can then proceed to flash the ROM of your choice.

did every thing and got this message when i tried to flash the zip file
error: cannot load 'firmware-2.22.531.5.zip'

For some reason when ever I try to flash something it won't go to the phone. I put the file in the folder but I don't know if it reads it. Every other command that I send works but it won't flash any thing.

Can you post a screenshot of the output when running the commands? It will help identify the problem

I'm not familiar with Mac commands so maybe i'm missing something.

Anyway since you are s-off try also this.

Rename the firmware zip file to 0P6BIMG.zip
Put the renamed file to your external sdcard
Reboot to hboot and let it Read, Internalize and Execute.
Done.

After you update firmware make sure you delete the zip file from external sdcard.
Also remember that you will also need to flash your stock recovery afterwards.

So did all that now do I have to re-root my phone? Because it doesn't go straight to teamwin recovery.
